Our teachers/directors are early-education professionals with experience in the parent-participation format. They provide a research-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum that consists of hands-on activities designed to ignite the senses and the joy of learning. Learning occurs through play. It is the foundation for the formation of higher level critical thinking skills. So while children build a tower, they learn about shapes and sizes. Through process-oriented art, they learn about cause and effect. When children climb equipment, dig in the sand or serve themselves snack, they learn safety, good nutrition, and self-sufficiency.
A variety of creative materials are available each day: paints, playdough, collage materials, glue and wood, to name a few. Music and singing, books, puzzles, games, toys, housekeeping, dress-ups, a large play area with grass, sand boxes, a garden and outdoor equipment add to the daily program.
We have monthly field trips to locations such as pumpkin patches, farms, zoos, museums, gymnasiums, and amusement parks. Parents must accompany children and siblings are usually welcome.
At Serra, we value the rich diversity and experience each family brings to the program and encourage parents to contribute ideas for curriculum, projects, and field trips.
